Back in 1970, it had become popular to be as self-sufficient as possible. Nanny Glerup, future founder of glerups, saw an ad in the local newspaper with a class in making things out of felt. She took the class, in which she lovingly made her husband Ove Glerup a pair of felted boot slippers. 

Not only was Ove touched by this gesture – it turned out that Nanny had made an excellent pair of boot slippers and soon, Ove went everywhere in them. Nanny was quite excited by this, and they soon bought a farm and some sheep, so that Nanny could make slippers for friends and family. This became the start of the company and the rest, as they say, is history.
