A lovely gesture lead to success – the story of glerups

In 1970, it had become popular to be as self-sufficient as possible. Nanny Glerup, future founder of glerups, saw an advertisement in the local newspaper with a class in making things out of felt. She took the class, in which she lovingly made her husband Ove Glerup a pair of felted boot slippers. Not only was Ove touched by this gesture – it turned out that Nanny had made an excellent pair of boot slippers and soon, Ove went everywhere in them. 

Nanny was quite excited by this, and they soon bought a farm and some sheep, so that Nanny could make slippers for friends and family with the wool from their own farm. This became the beginning of the company and the rest, as they say, is history. Today that very farm is the headquarters of glerups in Denmark; in this way, staying true to the origin of the brand.

A unique combination of wool makes all the difference

Our products are made with a mix of wool from Danish sheep and high quality wool from New Zealand. This unique combination is our trademark, as it keeps your feet at the right temperature no matter the outer circumstances. The structure of these fibers means that it has the ability to absorb and release heat accordingly – which essentially means that it keeps the feet cool in the heat and warm in the cold. This is a property not found in slippers of other materials such as polyester or nylon.

Furthermore, the mix of wool prevents the buildup of unpleasant odors to occur, when wearing them. The unique texture of the wool absorbs the odor molecules in a way that makes them undetectable by the human nose. They disappear again when the slippers are cleaned.
