Explore the feeling of maximum comfort while staying stylish with a pair of boot slippers in natural wool from glerups.
Following in the footsteps of Danish design giants such as Lego, B&O and Royal Copenhagen, glerups has adhered to the traditional Danish design philosophy of keeping things simple, functional and elegant. These trades are aligned with the production of glerups’ footwear – not a whole lot of fuss, just simple boot slippers in a classic design in neutral Nordic colors. These boot slippers are perfect for unwinding after a long day, when you need to let yourself as well as your feet rest and get comfortable. Read on to learn more about our amazing footwear.
glerups is at its’ core a family business as it sprung from a woman’s hobby of making felted slippers for friends and family. This has also meant that said woman (Nanny Glerup) and her husband have been very set on keeping the production in line with the ethics that started glerups, keeping a regard for nature, animals and people in production. While adhering to the traditional craftsmanship, we keep on developing our processes to keep up with the modern times. This ensures our production is both up to date and stays in line with the ethics of the original designing methods.
When it comes to our wool production, we use a mix of wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand. And this is truly a kind of magic. Because this particular mix has properties that you won’t find in many other places. As many other slippers, these will keep your feet warm, when it’s cold – but with the twist that they are also able to keep your feet cool, when it’s warm, as the wool both isolates the excess heat, but also has a breathable structure, allowing your feet to feel fresh at any time.
Even a thing as odor from your feet will be isolated in the wool and disappear again, when the slippers are left out in the fresh air for a while. Another thing about this mix is that the molecular structure of the wool resembles the structure of human skin, which means that your feet will not be irritated as might be the case with slippers made from other materials. This diversity of the wool makes our boot slippers useful all year round.
These slippers aren’t meant to last just one season. With the right maintenance, you can enjoy your glerups boot slippers for a long time. To learn more about the simple ways of maintaining your boot slippers, read here.
At glerups, we produce our footwear with two different types of soles. We have the leather sole, which was the original sole for glerups’ footwear, for when you want to relax around the house, get comfy with a good book in your favorite chair or do some indoor chores. Then we have our rubber soles, which can be used both outdoors and indoors. These are perfect for an evening stroll along the beach, a walk in the woods or even if you need to get a bit of gardening done. No matter what type of sole you choose, glerups boot slippers are sure to elevate your time of relaxation and enjoyment.
The boot slipper is the very first slipper type that came from the hands of Nanny Glerup, founder of glerups. She had joined a class in making felted footwear and clothes and in all secrecy, made a pair of felted boot slippers for her husband Ove. He was surprised and moved by her gesture and proudly wore the boot slippers everywhere he went. He praised the comfort of the boot slippers, so much that friends and family soon started to ask for Nanny to make them a pair as well. It didn’t take long before the hobby grew into a small business and things had to change in order for Nanny to keep up with the production.
To everyone's surprise, Ove bought an old farm with plenty of room for a workshop for Nanny and also a stable to keep sheep in, so that Nanny could make boot slippers from their own wool production. Nanny simultaneously started going to conferences for small business owners and designers, where she gained a lot of attention for her product. At the height of her own production, Nanny could make two pairs of boot slippers a day. But soon the demand grew and so did glerups.
Over the years, this growth meant that we started receiving orders from abroad, which led to us getting international recognition. We are both thankful and proud of this development, as it shows that a lot of people care about products as ours – made with care, ethics and nature in mind.
