This is where glerups traveling slippers enter the scene. At glerups we make travel slippers out of the finest wool mix, being a combination of Danish wool from Gotland sheep and quality wool from New Zealand. This gives a unique result characterized by a very special softness and breathability, which means that you always feel comfortable when you wear a pair of glerups.

It's a mix which we've refined over decades through dedication and adhering to the ongoing feedback from our fans, to create that inimitable feeling which also relies on solid craftsmanship and an innovative approach to making the perfect slippers. The wool itself regulates the temperature by letting excess heat and moisture out through the natural fibers, so you feel good even when it's cold – but also when you want to wear a pair of travel slippers in the summer heat, for example. A minimalistic design for maximum comfort

The simple design of our travel slippers adhere to the Danish design tradition which is recognized all over the world. This is known from, among other things, Danish furniture architecture, where the materials being used often play a leading role in how the design is made. This is also the case for glerups designs. 

The feeling of natural freedom for your feet

The combination of the soft, lightweight soles and the unique structure of the wool added to the minimalistic expression provides a feeling of freedom, nature and comfort. They have a functional design, which has been refined and simplified throughout the years and this gives the slippers the look they have today, while at the same time holding on to the many qualities the slippers are recognized as having.

  

A gift made with love – how glerups began

Back in 1970, founder of glerups Nanny Glerup saw an ad in the local paper for a course in making things with felted wool. She signed up and quickly discovered how lovely and easy the material was to work with. She made a pair of wool slippers for her husband, Ove. Ove enjoyed wearing these slippers – in fact, he practically wore them everywhere and proudly told others about how his wife had made them for him. Nanny was inspired; this was the start of something. 

From farm to foot

Soon she was making slippers for the entire family and close friends. Ove then had an idea about buying a farm, where they could have sheep of their own and then produce the wool themselves. The idea evolved and became a business and is now known as just “glerups”. Nanny herself calls it a fairytale and as glerups continue to grow and be recognized around the world, she isn’t wrong. The farm, purchased by her and Ove back in the day, is now glerups headquarters in Denmark and is just called “The Farm”. This is quite symbolic of the glerups way of thinking; being innovative and curious while staying true to the past and the story, with both feet on the ground – of course, in a pair of glerups.

An example of the Danish design philosophy

Driven by our ambition to produce slippers, shoes and boots while staying in line with the founding philosophy, we continue to develop the product, which is currently the result of more than 30 years of curious and determined effort. A development that is also based on a respect for nature, a careful selection of the perfect materials, an adherence to the good old traditional craftsmanship virtues, and an ongoing dialog with our loyal glerups fans.
